Learn Squared – Creative Illustration

Create eye-popping illustrations and dynamic compositions with clear shapes, decisive lines, and big poses. Learn from renowned artist Amin Faramarzian, whose high-contrast, high-energy pieces might look like Saturday morning cartoons on the surface, but often hide deeper and powerful themes underneath.

In this lesson you’ll come up with the characters, world and story that you’ll use throughout the rest of the course. Amin will take you through a few exercises to decide on a genre and logline, before diving into references and thumbnail sketching. Don’t be afraid to experiment here- you never know what might inspire you!

In this lesson, you’ll come up with the characters in your story. After doing some rough sketching, you’ll create a full color portrait of your hero. Amin will cover several important concepts about color and lighting in this lesson, along with some useful tips for speeding up your art creation. At the end of this lesson, you’ll have a finished piece of character art.

In this lesson, you will come up with an interesting environment for your character to live in. Using all the concepting methods you learned eariler, you will thumbnail, define and iterate on your scene. At the end of this lesson, you’ll have a finished piece of art showing off your world.

This lesson will collect everything you’ve learned so far, by combining the character and environment designs from the previous two lessons into a single hero illustration. You’ll also adapt your finished key art into one or more alternate versions, for display in different kinds of media. At the end of this lesson, you’ll have multiple portfolio pieces showing off your new illustrated property.
