(piano jazz music) – Welcome to Bartlesville, Oklahoma. I’m standing now in front of the Price Tower, the only Frank Lloyd Wright designed skyscraper ever to be built back in the 50s. We’re here to talk about VR. In this course I’m not going to go into great details about how to shoot particular kinds of VR, rather I want to talk about the aesthics of VR, what VR can be used for, what kind of gear you might find now for shooting VR, and what kind of high level difficulties you might run into in terms of file format and workflow, and some of the other production issues that you’re going face when you try and move from shooting still images or video pointed in a particular direction to shooting stills and video that wrap 360 degrees around you. I’ve chose the Price Tower for this because I love this building, it’s great. As you move around this town, you see it in the distance and even though it’s 60 years old somehow it still looks like it’s a building from the future. Other times you look at it and it looks like a Mayan ruin of some kind. Inside, it’s a lot of curious spaces and odd angles. It’s the kind of thing that’s difficult to capture with still shooting or regular video. I’m hoping that VR is going to give me a way of expressing this building to you that might be a little more comprehensible. By the end of it hopefully you’re going to have a better idea of what VR is, what the challenges you might face will be if you decide to start using VR technology, and whether it’s a good fit for your media needs. So come with me now as we head into the Price Tower and start trying to figure out what this whole VR thing is.
