Motion Design School – Sound Design Fundamentals

Hi! Welcome to the Sound Design Fundamentals course on Adobe Audition!
We’re really glad to tell you about this powerful tool for explore what is sound design and how does it affect your animation. We will do our best to make this acquaintance as exciting as possible 🙂

Of course, it’s hard to tell about all the life hacks and tools in a couple of lessons, so that’s why we will focus mostly on workflow for short animations. In our opinion, Adobe Audition is not the most powerful, but one of the best solutions in today’s market to learn how sound design works and what it is.

This course was created for those who have never opened the program before but really want to start using it as the tool for sound design.

Course Structure:
Lesson 1: What is sound design. Imagine that motion design is a cake, then sound design is the icing on the cake. Without it, the cake would be just a piece of bread, but it is the icing that makes it the cake. We’ll give you a more detailed explanation in this lecture.

Lesson 2: Foley effects. The sound of footsteps, hits, and obvious interaction between objects is the basis of sound design. These are the sounds that help a view to fully immerse into all that’s happening on the screen.

Lesson 3: Creating Ambience. OK, now that the viewer is deep in the scene, what’s next? We need to create a sound of the world in which they are now and give them the right mood. It sounds a bit complicated, but it’s quite feasible in practice.

Lesson 4: Final touches. After we’ve filled the scene with sounds, we should think of details. Supporting characters, sounds moving from one ear to the other, volume balance — all these aspects will be considered here.

Extra Assignment. Without further practicing, you may forget everything just the other day. Do this assignment in order to keep your knowledge for long (crossed out) forever.

Bonus section. We’ve created two free libraries with 300+ different sound effects, especially for motion designers. You won’t get anywhere only by using random sounds.
